Songwriting Workshop: Lyrics & Melody Jumpstart
Location: Long Island, TBD Date: Two 2-hour long sessions, TBD Looking to move from dreaming about songwriting to actually doing it? Come join us for a fun, practical workshop on the how-to's of songwriting. Learn elements of song structure while experimenting with writing your own lyrics and melodies through guided exercises. By the end of the workshop, you'll have completed three versions of your own original song. Musical experience and instruments not necessary, though welcome. Please bring a notebook, pen, and a recording device if you have one (e.g. smart phone app or Garage Band) plus an openness and willingness to play, experiment, and be silly! Individual or small group workshops available by appointment. WHAT PAST WORKSHOPPERS SAY: Rory was a sensitive yet very able guide for this novice through the mysteries of songwriting. She worked with my strengths as a writer and learner to let a very natural flow develop in our time together, tailoring her lesson plan to suit my needs and continually challenge me. After only two sessions, I felt empowered to write lyrics that actually looked and felt like real songs, rather than just poems with the best lines copied and pasted a bunch of times next to the word: "chorus."
